The crew

As part of its commitment to the official mission of La Boudeuse the French Navy has assigned five of its personnel to serve as members of the ship’s crew over the next few years. All five volunteered for the assignment.

Sans-titre---85The men and women that make up the La Boudeuse crew come from very diverse social, cultural, ethnic and geographical backgrounds. And some even come from abroad, like Fernando Guillot from Argentina or Julia Du Rietz from Sweden. Other than their rich and varied personal experiences, all these men and women, most of whom have known each other for a long time, are accustomed to living under difficult conditions over very long periods of time. They are not bothered by isolation or lack of privacy and even less by lack of comfort, rain, wind, cold, heat or hunger. They are all used to living in these circumstances and are not afraid to do so. They are able to rise to all challenges and put their mission before anything else. All in all, they have a strong sense of solidarity and have proven time and again that they know how to work together towards a common goal, such as for example, facing the greatest of dangers as a team.

These men and women are also come from very varied professional backgrounds: sailors, doctors, electricians, carpenters, philosophers, logisticians, writers, film makers, photographers, film editors, deep sea divers and scientists from numerous disciplines. However, all are united first and foremost by the same passion for real adventure, science, the unknown, discovery, the protection of the environment and their interest in the key issues concerning sustainable development and biodiversity. They also all possess versatility, an essential quality for the type of mission undertaken by La Boudeuse. All members of the crew have a speciality and are amongst the best within their fields. But, in addition to their particular area of expertise, they have extensive skills in most of the other fields required by this expedition. This versatility means they are just as capable of navigating as they are of diving, climbing or building a temporary camp in the jungle in order to accomplish their mission.
