The Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP/ Independent Parisian Transport Authority) is a keen supporter of the La Boudeuse mission which, for the next two years, will be studying the biosphere and global warming as well as sharing its findings on the richness and fragility of nature. This mission will explore fundamental issues on the future of mankind.

RATP offers its praise and support for such an exciting and positive initiative aimed at building awareness amongst the general public, and which, in particular, should allow the younger generations to gain an understanding of the environmental, economic and social issues that threaten the planet.

At RATP, we wholeheartedly believe that the protection of the environment and sustainable development must, now more than ever, be considered as the primary concerns of our times.

Public transport is by nature respectful of the environment. For the same distance covered, an RATP passenger consumes three times less energy than a driver of a privately owned car. The underground, RER (commuter rail network) and the tram combined produce 50 times less greenhouse gas emissions.

Some years ago, the RATP introduced a voluntary sustainable development policy that has resulted in preventing some 2.1 million tonnes of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere each year, or in other words, the equivalent of the annual CO2 emissions of a town with a population of 150,000.

At the RATP we believe that promoting sustainable development is the very least we could do.
